Other Services we Offer:
Medical Qigong
Qigong can also be described as Daoist Yoga (with easier poses). Simply translated it means working with energy for the purpose of health. It can involve breath work, meditation, visualisations, static postures or simple movements and there are various different forms we teach.
Anyone can do Qigong as there is no level of fitness required.
Laser Acupuncture
Ever since acupuncture was introduced to the West, we have been trying to replicate the therapy without the use of needles. Laser has been tried and adopted over many different styles, methods and theories. A low power laser can enter through the skin, and into the associated acupuncture point, provided that the skin is porous, and the point is not too deep.
This translates to laser being a good alternative to needles for children under the age of approximately 13. Once the child matures, the skin pigments, thickens and the adult meridians burrow deeper into the flesh. Laser is much less effective from that time.
Infant Acupressure & Massage
Infants and toddlers are precious beings with pure Qi and when talking about them in Chinese medicine, we discuss them from the point of view that they are full of Qi. Where most adults have Qi flowing through their meridians, infants tend to have so much Qi that it encompasses the whole body. That's why the meridian points are basically unavailable, and of little use therapeutically.
When dealing with an infant who is sick, massage along infant points seems to be the most useful and humane system available. Inserting needles into an infant is, unless they are critically sick, not needed. The advantage of this system is that the parents can be taught the appropriate points and methods, and then apply the therapy themselves. They may not be able to diagnose, but they can certainly apply the therapy at home. Infant Massage is helpful for children aged 0 - 5 years old.
Herbal Medicine
Our Approach to Chinese Herbal Medicine is to work with Pill Formulas & Tonics as well as Powdered Herbs. This allows the patient the effectiveness of Herbal Remedies with the convenience of taking them quickly and easily rather than needing to decoct the raw herbs at home for themselves, which can be time consuming.
We stock our herbs and formulas from reputable Australian businesses. Here’s what one of our suppliers Cathay have to say:
“There is a growing awareness in the western world of the benefits of natural healing. More people are turning to 'alternative' medicines and therapies. As a result, Chinese herbal medicine is currently enjoying a rise in popularity in all parts of the world as more people prove for themselves its effectiveness.”
Moxibustion & Cupping
Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called "moxa" are burned very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate Qi in a similar way to how Acupuncture works. Moxa is usually made from the dried leafy material of the mugwort plant (Artemesia argyi or A.vlugaris).
We’re not able to provide moxibustion in this clinic as it would set off the smoke alarms but for willing patients we’re able to offer guidance on how to administer it at home.
Cupping Therapy is another technique used in Chinese medicine, often utilised by sports people for its support in helping with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and general well-being, as a strong form of deep tissue massage. The cups can be used in static positions or with the help of massage oil moved around certain areas or along certain meridians.
Please note, this technique will often leave strong bruising for up to 10 days and is contraindicated for certain conditions. Please call us before your appointment to see if this is the right therapy for you.
Meridian Massage
Meridian Massage is a gentle style of acupressure that's able to be performed over the clothes. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on musculo-skeletel techniques, this system focuses on the energy or 'Qi' flow through the meridian system of the body. It's a wonderful, effective and quick technique that can offer the body a chance to re-balance, relax and de-stress.
This massage lasts up to 30 minutes and only requires removing shoes and jewellery.
Feng Shui Consultations - For Home and Office
Both Warwick and Áine studied Feng Shui 22 years ago with the then Sydney architect, Howard Choy and Warwick went on to study it in China. In simple terms Feng Shui offers an understanding of the energy flow in and around a garden, house or premises and attempts to optimise its forces to work for you, rather than against you. It is designed to help with financial, health and relationship issues. Our experience is that results show up in the first two or three weeks after the suggested changes have been implemented.
Face Readings
Face Reading was taught as part of Warwick's undergraduate training as a tool that assists diagnosis - just as in the olden days doctors would always ask people to stick out their tongue. He uses it daily in clinic and has found it invaluable in the counselling aspects of his work.
We are all different and this uniqueness is written on our face. Some of this knowledge can be helpful to lay people, whether it be dealing with a difficult relative, choosing a partner or selecting an employee. This is an art, not a science but it can be a helpful instrument with which to navigate life. This training can enable a person to see quickly what it may take years or months to learn normally.
Chinese Tea Ceremony
In China, fine teas are like fine wines and a tea connoisseur can tell you not only where a particular tea is grown but which mountain, what side of the mountain, what year and which season the leaf was picked. Top grade teas can sell for up to $1,000 per Kg.
Tea Ceremonies are becoming more popular and the medicinal properties of teas are becoming more well known. Our approach to the famous leaf is one of health. We combine the knowledge of Chinese Medicine, Qigong (or Energy work) and Chinese Tea together to create a unique healing experience. Covering which types of teas are good for which conditions, how to make them at home or in ceremony, and where to get the ‘good stuff.' These ceremonies and workshops are a wealth of information and also just an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend a few hours.
Aromatherapy and Essential Oils
Essential oils can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications. They can be used as single essential oils or in complex essential oil blends depending on what’s needed. We use a quality brand called dōTerra. Our oils are sometimes utilised in our treatments but can also be purchased directly from us without the need for an appointment.
If you’d like to learn more about dōTerra Oils and opportunities, please visit our dōTerra page here.
Meditation & Mindfulness
Meditation has finally become dis-associated from the hippie culture in Australia as more and more research is showing its health benefits. Áine spent a year in a Buddhist monastery and returned markedly more healthy physically, mentally and spiritually. She also has a background working at the Gawler Foundation where she initially learned mindfulness and Buddhist meditation. She likes to teach some of what she learned to those who are needing to slow down, pause occasionally and remember what it means to be a human being, with a heart.
